Tagg Romney, at a bakery in Dover NH being introduced by his dad Mitt Romney, to the “Golden Girls’. A group of women who have all lost their husbands, spend a lot of time together at that bakery, and who have great senses of humor.

“Diners at Harvey’s Bakery this morning got a side order of a presidential candidate with their eggs and coffee as Republican Mitt Romney shook hands with potential voters at the Central Avenue business.

“‘I’m Mitt Romney. I’m running for president,’ he said to each and every person to whom he extended a greeting.”

“Romney chatted with a table of women calling themselves ‘The Golden Girls,’ a close-knit group who have breakfast at the coffee shop six days a week.

“‘What a handsome president,’ said Kay Constance of Dover.

“‘The papers do not do you justice,’ Tillie Michaud of Dover told Romney.

“Romney introduced his son, Tag, to The Golden Girls, noting his child had bought his father a 1962 Rambler for his 60th birthday. He also told the women that he and his wife have five sons, but no daughters.

“Barbara Fortier said she believed Romney would be in the running for the Republican nomination to the end. ‘I think he’s a great man,’ she said.”

Supporters included City Councilor David Scott.

“‘I think he reminds me of Ronald Reagan,’ he said.”

“Pam Davis said she is definitely backing Romney. ‘If he can run an Olympics and run a state, he can certainly run a (federal) government,’ she said.” …

After my own Dad passed away, these kind of “morning get together’s with friends” are what kept my Mom going. It gave her a reason to get up and get out in the morning, caught her up on the latest chit chat and news, and helped to fill her days with friends that became even nearer and dearer to her.

From my experience in talking with ladies of their age, they definitely don’t miss a beat and you definitely can’t pull anything over on them, that’s for sure. They’ve lived through alot, and aren’t shy about sharing their opinions, advice, or memories with you.

I have no doubt Governor Romney and Tagg had a lovely morning with the ‘Golden Girls of Dover’. In fact, they probably made his day.
